Do you like spicy food? Do you avoid spicy food or do you take it as a challenge? Why does the spice burn your mouth?

Here is the science of spiciness. You may notice that not all spicy food are spicy in the same way. Your brain reacts differently with the different spicy compounds – but the spice is interpreted as pain from the heat receptors. And whether or not you are able to tolerate this pain, it is more of a personal preference and less of a competition.

Why do we still have spice in our foods? Are there any benefits to eating something that makes us cry and sweat? Why do we put ourselves through this pain?
